My work specializes in the release of emotional congestion, physical stresses, tensions and anxieties from; accidents, repetitive stressful situations, surgeries, verbal and/or physical abuse, feelings of abandonment, betrayal, depression, near death states, early womb or childhood trauma, PTSD or various other wounds or events related from birth to the present moment. My private practice focuses in healing traumatic anxiety, high levels of stress and those seeking a deeper connection to their inner spirit. My work as a Hospital Chaplain has taken me into ICU Units and Emergency Rooms working with patients, families and staff dealing with one of the most profound moments as we move between life and death states. I’ve trained with Peter Levine in Somatic Experiencing, author of “Waking The Tiger, Healing Trauma.” Studied MBSR/Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, developed by author and PHD, Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn. I have been a Buddhist meditation practitioner of “Insight Awareness” since 1988 and currently lead a weekly meditation class in San Francisco.

My background includes being a former director of a Healings Arts School and study of advanced bodywork that utilized both eastern & western healing practices.

Incorporated yoga into my life in the late 80’s and Qigong since 2002.

Involved in the Martial Art Kyudo “The Way Of The Bow” since 1991.

My healing work is drawn from an extensive education in the healing arts, Spiritual Chaplaincy Hospital work and my own personal path into wellbeing and happiness by overcoming personal ailments of slight scoliosis at birth, compounded by a spinal compression from a hang-gliding accident in my mid 20’s. I’ve been involved in volunteer community outreach care at the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic working with HIV/Aids patients, drug addicts, the homeless, Vet issues, racial issues, people in physical pain and those suffering physical and emotional abuse, utilizing Somatic Therapy and Bodywork.

The body will and can reestablish its ability to stabilize and regulate itself without becoming overwhelmed. This allows for the return of the body to a natural state of calm, wholeness and a sense of feeling safe…reintegrating and balancing the emotional mind, body and spirit connection.

Traveled to Baton/Rogue New Orleans to assist a Trauma First Aid Training, and provide trauma sessions. Supporting people who are still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Katrina and Rita.

My education continues to grow through mindfulness and compassion training and silent retreating. I have been practicing Buddhist Mindful Meditation since the late 80’s. Have retreated with gifted meditation teachers such as Jack Kornfield; renowned author, psychologist and former Buddhist Monk. Ajahn Sumedho, well known Theravada Buddhist Monk and teacher. Dr. Robert Hall, meditation teacher and founder of the Lomi School in Northern California. Stanislov Grof MD, creator of “Holotropic Breathwork,” Stephen Batchelor author of “Buddhism Without Beliefs,” and many other wonderful teachers. At the end of 2009 completed 91 Days in a Silent Meditation Retreat in the Forest Refuge.

I have familiarity in creative undertakings as a poet and vocalist/songwriter, mixed with a business background as a Non-Profit Fundraiser, Operations in the Garment Industry and Management in the Restaurant Industry and also a former Director of a Healing Arts & Massage School in San Francisco. These life experiences lead me to to opening the nonprofit MCC/Mindfulness Care Center, working one on one with clients, teaching Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, plus creating and bringing a variety of new mindfulness workshops to the MCC.

I work with others in releasing how our body has held life “little traumas” and “big traumas” by over stressing our bodily systems. The body will and can reestablish its ability to stabilize and regulate itself without becoming overwhelmed. This allows for the return of the body to a natural state of calm, wholeness and a sense of feeling safe…reintegrating and balancing the emotional mind, body and spirit connection.

“Working with Rik has brought me a new dimension in body awareness. No longer just the repository for a lifetime of illness and trauma. I find my body is more of a partner in dealing with the difficulties in life…Rik is a gifted Practitioner, Therapist and Teacher. I am grateful to be working with him” – CP

“In my personal experience, Rik’s professionalism, skills and empathy are unmatched by any other in a world where everyone talks and few listen or connect. Rik has a rare gift in being able to be present and open others up, mentally, physically and spiritually. It’s clear that he also takes great pride in what he does and that he never lets himself settle…he is always on a quest to improve himself” – SS
